We did not make it for sunrise, but arrived about 10 a.m. I would not recommend arriving any later as the clouds roll in. But the crater is a must-see while you are on Maui. It was incredible. Put it on your list even if you do not make the sunrise. more

The scene is really nice, but not worth getting up at 2am on your vacation. You can get this view if you fly early in the morning and watch out the window. The sunsets in Hawaii are much more scenic, too. more

I wanted to write this review because I think it's important for people to know that if you're going to hike down the Sliding Sands trail, make sure you have enough time and energy to hike back down.... more

We had a beautiful day to drive up to the crater. If you go bring some warmer clothes, some snacks, and go in the morning because visibility tends to better. On our way down the clouds started to roll in and you can't see much so I am sure the afternoon drivers were disappointed. more

We took a half-day tour from our cruise to Haleakala. The place is really awsome. It's almost out of this world. Climbing from the sea level to the top of the mountain is a great experience. However, the trip there (from Lahaina) took almost 2-1/2 hours each way. It means that we only had like 30 min at the crater!... more

If you enjoy waking up at 2am and sitting on top of a volcano waiting for the sun to rise then this is for you. Saw an amazing sunrise, stars and got to hear some amazing stories. i.e. girl who went up the day after breaking her leg on the descent. Of course the best part is riding your bike... more
